The Casual Actuarial Society is an organization of people who spend their days estimating insurance damages, structuring reinsurance programs, engaging in capital management, and basically spending their days mashing away at Excel files in the company of few.
It’s a membership organization for people who have passed all of the exams required to become an actuary. However, the word “society” does sound a lot cooler.
The organization has been around since 1918, and has grown from 97 charter members to over 8,000.
That’s a lot of people working in insurance, and a lot of people so committed to insurance that they’d spend countless hours studying the rigors of casualty insurance. Impressive. Ish.
