Certified Divorce Financial Analyst - CDFA
Categories: Education, Regulations, Trusts and Estates, Incorporation
What's an uncertified divorce financial analyst like? Does she perform unsanctioned divorce financial analysis out of an unmarked van parked in an alley somewhere?
The official variety of this profession specializes in the financial aftermath of divorce. As you might expect, these folks only arrive on the scene in situations where notable financial assets are at stake in the marital split. They know details about the financial aspects of divorce...things like property laws, alimony, and child support. They can give advice about the most advantageous divorce settlement to push for, and how to achieve the most tax-efficient split of assets.
As to the certification, that gets issued by the (...wait for it...) Institute of Divorce Financial Analysts. To get certified, you need three years of professional experience in finance or divorce (we're assuming spending three years getting divorced doesn't count) and a Bachelor's degree. You'll also need to pass four certification exams.
'Til divorce do you part.
