Lesser-Developed Country - LDC

Isn't that kind of arrogant, maybe even jingoistic? Like..."lesser-developed" is such a narrowing term.
You're at dinner and you come from a country which has mastered the use of chopsticks. But at the steakhouse, they don't offer them. So you struggle a bit with the whole fork-and-knife thing. Your date looks at you, commenting that you're "lesser-developed." Remember that when the check comes.
From a less brutal and/or narrow perspective, lesser-developed means that there isn't a booming economy, nor great savings, nor fabulous construction or natural resources in the country to get it...going. Think: lots of countries in Africa. Lesser-developed.
Unless you're talking about government corruption, at which many of those countries are highly skilled. Their leaders feast as their populations starve. And they sleep well at night. So what really is "lesser-developed" anyway?
