Moore's Law
Moore’s Law is the equivalent of a technological cyrstal ball prophecy. In 1965, Intel co-founder Gordon Moore noticed that the number of transistors in a given space had doubled every year since they were invented. Moore predicted that this trend would continue, doubling into the foreseeable future. Wowza—that’s some exponential technological forecasting that might not seem too crazy in retrospect—but think about it. That was years before we even went to the moon.
Over 50 years later, Moore was pretty close to being right, remarkably enough. The doubling rate is closer to a year and a half than a year these days, but that’s still pretty astounding. Moore’s Law is considered to be every year and a half now, rather than every year. The moore transistors per square inch, the merrier! All hail Gordon.
