Your woobie when you were a kid. Your lucky rabbit's foot now. Examples of one kind of security token.
Another kind involves actual security, like preventing thieves from getting something valuable.
You work for a secret government lab (you shouldn't have blabbed about it to us, honestly). To get into work, you need to type in your password, have your retina scanned, say your name and your ID number for a voice match, and swipe your security card. The security card represents the security token in this example. It's a physical item used to bypass a security point. Key cards are examples. So are fobs and wrist bands and laminated cards on lanyards. Or wands and a funny hat, if you work at a, uh...more whimsical secure facility.
The point is that the security token includes some physical item...as opposed to a password you memorize, or a check of a body part (like a retina or fingerprint scan).
