Toehold Purchase
Categories: Investing
It was...just the tip. Just the start. You wanted to own at least some real estate in Hong Kong while it was still owned by the Brits, just before turning it over to be owned by China on New Year's Eve 1999. That initial toehold purchase was a tiny office building, but one which was near Beijing and had 2 acres on which huge buildings could be built.
A million square feet later, you were a kingly, commercial-office-building landlord, collecting rent from mostly American firms seeking to make bank in the newly opened world. Pass the rice.
