Guide Mentor

Character Role Analysis

Itzhak Stern

Stern is Schindler's moral compass. He's the guy who quietly reminds him that it's a good thing to protect his workers from the Nazis. Or who lets events speak for themselves and hopes Schindler can draw his own conclusions. Oskar doesn't really need a mentor (the real-life man was in his thirties when these events took place), but he does need someone to feed and water his better instincts. Stern has insight into the Jewish community that helps Schindler make connections with them. That puts him very clearly in Guide/Mentor territory.
