The field of oceanography is growing, and the oceans are certainly not going anywhere. As the population grows and more of us get packed onto the thirty percent of the planet that is land, the need to understand, use, and conserve the world's oceans is expanding.
This means that you should have a certain degree of job security as an oceanographer—provided that you're seaworthy enough to brave the open waters.
