As long as you aren't exposed to some kind of radioactive material and don't climb inside an accelerator and get in a proton's way, you should really be fine. Most of your work will be done in a safe, secure research facility. We think we know why you're worried about it, but, no, those aren't safety goggles most physicists are wearing—their prescriptions are just that strong.
