Oh, the Places You'll Go! Choices Quotes

How we cite our quotes: (Stanza)

Quote #4

[…] for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting. (14)

The Waiting Place. What in the world does this have to do with "choices"? It seems the people here are doing anything but making them. To that we say: exactly. The Waiting Place is what happens when your child must choose from too many choices, some of which look pretty scary. There is complete inertia, with everyone just bumming around waiting for someone else to make those decisions for them. And the rhyme scheme shows it. Look at those repetitive rhymes. We're not going anywhere. Snooze.

Quote #5

You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure where you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act. (30)

Alas, the arc is complete. By the end of the story, we've learned that there will always be tough decisions to make. We just have to make sure we think it out, but not to the degree that we can't go anywhere. Stay Balanced. Keep on keepin' on.
